Whether you call it Autumn or Fall, it is arriving. This last week, prior to September 22nd, the official Fall equinox date, the Village high temperature has been in the low 70’s and dipping into the high 30’s at night. You can certainly feel the cool air coming and Winter approaching.
After Labor Day our Village is quieter and more serene. Less congestion makes navigating our roads less stressful. Enjoy the outdoors and breathe that crisp mountain air. Think happy thoughts and be glad that you live in such a wonderful community.
Now is the time to prepare your property for the coming cold and snow. A few things to consider: Snow Blower tuneup with new gas, irrigation system shutdown, seal window and door leaks with caulking or weather stripping, remove leaves and pine needles from gutters so you have good drainage to minimize ice dams, inspect your heating system and/or fireplace for proper operation, and seal any openings so those little critters don’t find a nice warm place for winter.
If you leave for the winter consider draining water lines and set your thermostats to at least 55 degrees. It helps to have a full time resident friend check your property periodically. Or hire someone.
Remember that you are in a wonderful mountain community. But if you don’t prepare it won’t be wonderful anymore.
